Sorry, mom. We’re about to break one of your cardinal fashion rules: This summer, we’re exposing our bra.
Yes, after years (eons?) of wearing T-shirt bras that all but disappear under tops, this season is all about the lace bralette—and we’re all about showing it off. So, what defines a bralette versus a traditional bra? A bralette is basically a hybrid of a lace bra with a sports bra. Instead of a hook-and-eye closure, it’s pull-on, and typically doesn’t have an underwire. In a word, they’re comfortable. Perfect for summer, no?
Now, we’ve seen the Victoria’s Secret Angels Martha Hunt and Taylor Hill rock them with cute outfits, not to mention Kendall Jenner’s daring bralette moment at Coachella—but how can you wear them IRL? We turned to model-turned-blogger-turned-super-successful-designer, Anine Bing to show us the way. Anine actually designed the bralette that Kendall has been photographed wearing (ie. to Gigi Hadid’s birthday party in April) and hasn’t been able to keep them in stock since K bared (almost) all. “She took it to the next level,” said Anine of Kendall’s styling hers with leather micro shorts. “She wore it as a top, different than I would wear it myself, but she looked amazing.”
And if you’re concerned that this trend is reserved for smaller-chested women, Anine has you covered. Due to popular demand from women with larger chests, she’s created several styles that offer light support.
Now here are three easy ways to rock the trend right now, modeled by Anine herself.
1. With a Rocker Tank
2. Underneath a Lace Blouse
3. Over a White V-Neck
