If you’re like me, that is, blessed with sparse eyebrows and eyelashes shorter than an ampersand, then places like The Brow Bar are a gift from the eye hair heavens. Located in Clearwater Mall and Mall of the South in Johannesburg, The Brow Bar is a one stop shop that offers everything from eyelash extensions, brow treatments, brow threading and pretty much any lash or brow enhancement you can think of.
I walked into The Brow Bar in Clearwater Mall expecting to be told to come back later (they’re always full), but was happy to find that a pretty consultant called Liz could see me immediately. She was what we always hope service providers will be, friendly, warm and accommodating.
I told the lovely Liz that I had a photo shoot the following Monday and could she please give me one helluva lash and brow makeover. I chose the temporary (it lasts about 2 weeks) “natural” lash extensions which are longer than my own too short lashes, but looked 100% natural and not like I had caterpillars nesting on my lash line.
After making myself comfortable in a reclining leather chair, she first measured my brows, then threaded the stray hairs, then used this magic kit called Billion Dollar Brows. It took about 10 minutes and definitely made my “eyebrows on fleek”. The Billion Dollar Brow kit contains a duo brow pencil and brush as well as a concealer, hilighter and setting gel. I liked it so much that I bought the kit which Liz showed me how to use at home. I thought it would be a lot of work, but it’s actually quite quick once you get the hang of it.
The whole process for my lashes and brows took less than 40 minutes and I was thrilled with the results and experience. The cost is also reasonable for a special occasion, and if you want it to last longer you can go for top ups which is less expensive. The express lashes were R500 and the brow threading was R95. It might seem pricey, but as I’ve seen in the beauty business, you get what you pay for. Rather pay slightly more for a trained and qualified consultant, than paying 50 bucks to Suzie-from-down-the- road who could royally stuff up your eyes.
Overall, I’d highly recommend The Brow Bar South Africa.
