Anyone who knows me, knows I am a die-hard Apple fangirl and I’m obsessed with apps, especially new apps that offers something unique, new and shiny. I recently came across one such app, called TooNight. Remember in the old days you’d have to call all your friends individually to find out where they are, and today you’d probably either text them, or create a chat group so you can find out what each of them are up to, and where the happening spots are? Well the TooNight app is the next level. At the touch of an automagical button, we can now know exactly where it’s happening and who to join.
In a nutshell, the TooNight app allows you to “see” where your friends are on a night out. The app gives you choices of your friends you can swipe through, and if it’s someone you want to hang out with for a night out, you click on an icon and the app will show you where he or she checked in with an added bonus of a star “rating” of the place your friend is at. That right there is pretty cool. There’s no point heading out to join a friend if she’s at a party that sucks and now you’ll know before you get there.
Although the app is more for friends, it also shows you people you don’t know. Using the Tinder style swipe right, you can request to see where that person is, and he or she will have to accept sharing their location with you. Conversely, if someone wants to see your location, you’ll receive a request in the app that you have to approve for them to see your check-in location. Not a bad idea for those looking to meet new people. For those who value their privacy, there’s an option in the settings to hide your profile from people you don’t know. Only your Facebook friends will be able to see you. You can also block people, because this is real life, there be dragons, and they won’t even know you blocked them, they’ll just never see you.
After downloading the app, you log on using your Facebook profile, this is so that the app can pull your friends list into the app. You are then taken through 3 steps where you have to select the friends you have the most fun with, chill the most with and finally that one (or two or three if you’re like me) friends who you tell everything too. Based on your selections, the app will then search your friends’ locations and give you all the options of who is where doing what. You can also send messages from within app, e.g. if you want your friend to know you’re on your way etc.
If you want to check in so your friends can see where you are, you just click on a button and you can add more info like where you are and who you are with. E.g. “I am at Harem with Candy” then rate it 5 stars for how legendary it is. The check in lasts 6 hours or until you check in somewhere else.
Some other nifty features are the option to select which photo you want to use from your Facebook profile and you can also narrow or broaden the kilometer radius of your search so it only shows you friends that are close to where you are.
It also helps that the app interface is super easy to use, and gorgeous (my tech heart loves me some great UI).
